Year 1 has just finished their 5 week art project working in the art room with Alice.
Linking with their project on the weather they had looked at Hokusai’s famous wood block ‘The Great Wave’, made 200 years ago! They discovered many patterns within the wave including stripes, swirls, dots and curly lines.
To learn about the wood-block printing process, they explored the act of simple stamp printing using various objects and blue paint to make marks. And, they went on to explore what marks and patterns they could make by using different types of tools and objects and by applying different actions. As well as stamping, they used rolling, flicking, spraying, dragging and turning actions!
Finally, they considered what objects and actions they would use for a giant wave picture.
Watch this space for year 1’s amazing stop-motion animations telling their stories of their own great wave.
