During the summer term, Year 1 are invited to the Regent’s Park Allotment Gardens for two separate visits. They have time to explore the vegetable gardens, look at the fruit trees, smell the aromatic herbs and make friends with the scarecrow. The team leader at the allotments is Julie and she showed the children how to recycle newspaper to make paper pots. They then planted runner bean seeds in their finished pots which were brought back to school to germinate. A surprising star of the show was a tiny fledgling bird which had become separated from its parent.
We also had the opportunity to explore Queen Mary’s Rose Garden, a beautiful area of the park to wander around to find a favourite bloom.
