We were very excited to be reading a new story in class. Before we could open ‘The Lonely Beast’ and read the story, we had to look at the front cover and think about what the story might be about by reading the title and studying the illustration. We then had to read the blurb on the back and found lots of tricky words that we had never seen before.
Using dictionaries from across the school, we worked in pairs to find the tricky words and read and write the definitions. We were then able to sit together and read the blurb again, sharing our knowledge about the tricky words and helping eachother to understand them.
