Year 1 celebrated and learned about the life of an amazing woman, Mae Jemison. The children read a story ‘Look Up’ which was written about Mae Jemison herself as a child and what her dreams were to be when she grew up.

The children wrote a fact sheet about all the information they learned about her and you can see how brilliant their writing is in these photos.

The children also looked at the globe and the Planets App to see the view Mae saw from space. All she wanted to do when she was little was to see Earth. She said “I will tell them I want to see earth. I want to see it from out there!”

She grew up to be the first African American woman in space!
