You may not know the answer, but Year 1 children do, as today we visited St Mark’s Church. Fr William told us why Christians use up all their fats and rich foods on Shrove Tuesday and then on the following day, Ash Wednesday, they start to fast for Lent. This traditionally lasts for 40 days and even if you don’t fast, you may decide to give up something like chocolate and be extra specially kind to your friends and family. We watched as Fr William burnt some palm leaf crosses from last Easter and this produced the ash to be used in the service tomorrow, Ash Wednesday. Many thanks for your kind invitation, Fr William.
