Our scientist came to help us experiment with sound. She came from the Crick Institute at Kings Cross.
First we talked about how we hear things and why our ears are placed on our head at the sides. Then we thought about what it was like to just have one ear that worked properly. We carried out a test. One of the class was blindfolded in the middle of the circle. He had to point to the person who said “hello!”
We kept a record of hearing with two ears first and then just one. Two was definitely better… can you think why?
We carried out other experiments with coat hangers. Why don’t you ask children in year four how to do these experiments and try them out for yourself? They were great fun!
