We have been exploring addition and subtraction in Year 1 and thinking about why it is important to know number facts for smaller numbers and to be able to carry out lower value sums in our heads. If we know our facts we can use and apply them with all kinds of exciting sums… if we know that 5-3=2, then we can work out what 1005-2=… in our heads!!

We’ve been using dominoes to help us with our learning and have also used gigantic number lines so we can think about which way we should travel when we are adding and taking away.
