On Tuesday 22nd January, Herons went to the Waitrose Cooking School in King’s Cross. First, they visited the shop floor to identify fruits and vegetables they had never seen before. Then they learned how to compare the amounts of salt and fat in fresh foods to ready-made meals. They discovered a huge difference and learned that fresh foods are much better for you because the contain a lot less salt, sugar and fats. After that, they went in to the kitchen and cooked a healthy meal of burritos using delicious fresh ingredients such as beans, avocadoes, long-stem brocolli, limes, cumin, rosemary and basil to name a few. They had the chance to develop their palettes, tasting different herbs and spices. A deliciously nutritious time was had by all.
