This week has been Healthy Food Week and Year 1 have been busy learning about different food groups. There is a new 2016 Eatwell Guide that shows the correct proportions of food for a healthy balanced diet. The children brought in foods from different groups and then had fun sorting them into: fruit and vegetables like artichokes, watermelon and shallots; carbohydrates like bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and bulgar wheat; proteins like meat, fish, eggs and lentils; and dairy produce like yoghurt, cheese and milk. The children then made a healthy snack with mashed banana, oats, a dash of honey, made into balls then rolled in sesame seeds or mashed rice crackers. Easy and delicious!
