This half term in Froglets we have been focusing on the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. We were so excited when our very own caterpillars arrived! They were tiny, but very hungry caterpillars. Then we put them into special little pots with air holes, full of yummy food!
Over the next couple of weeks, we watched and observed closely as the caterpillars began to grow. They were no longer tiny anymore, they were big, fat caterpillars. Before we knew it, they had turned themselves into a chrysalis. WOW, we were so amazed and so excited to see the changes happen. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. Then finally, out popped one beautiful butterfly. Then another, and another, and another! We had 17 butterflies in the end. We had to leave them for 2 days so they could dry their wings, ready to fly. On Friday afternoon, we took them outside, and one by one they flew away.
Bye butterflies, we will miss you, but we are so excited as we know you are now going to lay some eggs on a leaf to hatch into a caterpillar and then into a butterfly again. We have learnt so much about the lifecycle of a butterfly.
