How many ways can you think of to sort coins? Well, Year 1 managed to come up with many different methods!
By studying the different features of the coins, sharing ideas and working in teams, the children sorted the coins by multiple criteria… by colour, shape, size, value, number on the coin, depth and shininess!
They then went on to use their coins to buy items from the classroom. Using their knowledge of number bonds and addition, they used mental maths to count out the correct coins and then raced to the shopkeeper to buy the item before their friends did!
Well done Year 1!
