We have been learning all about fractions this week and decided that the best way to explore halves and quarters would be by working with a partner and a tasty slice of bread!
Thinking about sharing the bread equally, the children thought about how they should cut it so that it was fair. They decided to cut the bread in half. When told they needed to share their bread with the class adults as well, they generously agreed and then cut their bread into quarters.
After that we thought about what had happened to the bread. We asked ourselves how many quarters made a half and how many halves made a whole… then we ate it all up!
