Today Year 4 were visited by artist Emmanuel Unaji, who led a self-portrait workshop for them. In the workshop he discussed how he uses his art to subvert common perceptions of groups of people.
He then got the children to think about their own identities and how they perceive themselves.
Following this they were tasked to create a mixed-media self portrait that subverted the perception of themselves that others may have.
In true Unaji style, they tore a photo of themselves in half and then drew the now missing side with an expression that was different to the photo.
They then painted a background for the picture using colours that reflect the mood of the created image.
