In Year 1 we know that the Owl and the Pussy Cat went to sea. In the illustration we used, Pussy Cat was holding an umbrella and we wondered what it was made of.

To find out which was the best material that could be used, 1J tested cotton wool, tissue paper, fabric and rubber to see which would let the water through and if any were waterproof. The children made a prediction first, then tested the material with water, then came to a conclusion based on their observations.
