Year 1 have been working with Alice to complete their pictures based on Hokusai’s painting ‘The Great Wave’. They are really pleased with the results. To produce these beautiful pieces they started by making a cut-out wave using a template. They then layered collage over the top, creating flat shapes and textured areas with coloured paper and tissue. Working over the top in paint, they selected from mark-making techniques they had been practicing in their art journals and used sprayed paint with toothbrushes for the sea spray. They noticed that the paint made their waves seem to come alive with movement. Do you agree?
