We have had an amazing arrival in RR. Almost 200 baby eels, called elvers, have come to stay with us until the end of term! Each one is 2 years old and has swum all the way from the Sargasso Sea to reach our waters. That’s an incredible 3000 miles! The elvers will mature into adult eels and be freed into the river where, if lucky, they will live a long and happy life. Eels have a lifespan of around 100 years.
Our wonderful parents stayed with us one morning to create an underwater corner to house our elvers in. Thank you for your time and creativity parents, it looks fantastic.
