Year 1 have been reading Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and this led to some lovely artwork. First we looked carefully at the illustrations of plants in the book then went down to the garden to collect some leaves to draw. After some close observational drawing of the leaves, the children then drew carefully around their drawings with black ink pens. These were photocopied and enlarged ready for painting with water colours, then cut out and mounted onto a chalk pastel background.
The final stage was inspired by the endpapers of an old copy of Avocado Baby. The children took photos of each other which they cut out and arranged with the collage leaves, together with a picture of Max, if they wanted one. Totally wild!
