This half term we have been focusing on the story of The Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.
On Monday morning when the children came into the classroom they found a ‘a witches crime scene’. They became detectives and looked at the clues thinking about who may have left a cape, a wand, a bow, a cauldron and a large URGENT letter! After reading the letter they found out that the witch had sent them a spell to learn, as at the end of the story her broom broke and she needed a new one.
We have been practising learning the spell off by heart by using a text map and actions for the words. Some of the children have even independently written out the witch’s spell. In maths, we have been making our own spells in the cauldrons by counting out objects and using the mathematical language of more.
Over the last week the children have been having lots of fun dressing up in our Room on the Broom role play house, making wands and brooms, and mixing and making potions outside.
