Year 5 have been hard at work over the past view weeks in the run up to the Primrose Hill Mini General Election! After learning about the workings of the UK political system, children formed four political parties: Active Future, Justice, Revolution and United. In their parties, they researched a selection of issues to prepare to debate different motions (eg. “The UK should invest in nuclear energy.”. The electrifying debates led into writing party manifestos. This writing was then used to create a party political broadcast for each group – filmed using greenscreen technology, no less! The broadcasts were launched in assembly for the rest of the school and our budding politicians then went out on the campaign trail, promoting their party and policies with t-shirts and posters all over the school. Children had to get themselves onto the electoral register before they could vote, but adults were disappointed to learn that they were not eligible to vote as they were over 18! When polling day approached, the school was buzzing with excitement as children from year 1 to 6 hit the voting booths! It was a tough and well-fought election, but in the end there could be only one winner – congratulations United! And a huge well done to all our year 5 politicians who have worked so hard on their campaigns over the past few weeks. You should be very proud of yourselves!
