Our topic in Year 5 this term is ‘Save the World’. To kick off our learning for the term we learnt the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans – we were shocked at how bad the problem is across the world! We started to use our scientific knowledge to think of ways to help our oceans by removing the pollution and plastic. In teams, we were given beakers of ‘polluted ocean water’ (which really contained coffee, bits of paper, rice and sand). Our task was to work like scientists and use the resources we were given to make our water as clean as possible. It was a lot harder than we thought it was going to be to remove all of the rubbish from our water! We will be sharing all of the tips we learn during our topic for reducing the pollution in the oceans and saving the environment so watch this space.
