It was the Noise lesson of the week in year 4!
“The harder you hit the drum, the louder the sound and the bigger the vibrations.” It was also interesting to see how loud a sound made the rice jump off the drum!
You can see that sound moves in waves when you put a metal instrument in water and hit it with a metal beater… the water gets waves.
We tried plucking strings on a ukulele to see what happened to them. “The longer the string, the bigger the vibration and the lower the note sounds.”
Have you ever tried to make an instrument out of a ruler? (Don’t try this in class if you are not doing science!!!) The longer the ruler, the bigger the vibration, the shorter the ruler, the smaller the vibration and the sound is higher!
We also looked at what happens in your larynx when your vocal chords are working. It didn’t look very nice.
IT WAS A NOISY TOP FLOOR… But the learning was fantastic!
