In science, we have spent the term learning about states of matter and observing that some materials change state when they are heated or cooled. We’ve focused on how to keep things cold, warm or at room temperature. Over the last few weeks, our focus has been been finding out about materials that are good insulators through our STEM project.
As we have read the Ice Palace and winter is fast approaching, for our STEM project, we had to design a coat/bag to stop a snowman from melting. We began the D&T part of the project by designing our bags, considering what materials that we thought would best keep things cold and practising our sewing skills. Here are some pictures of our making process.
Next week we will begin testing and evaluating our design by measuring the temperature at which the ice starts to change state.
