Year 1 were treated to an exceptional learning experience when one of our parents, Athena’s daddy from 1K came to visit last Friday afternoon.
Using maps, the children were told about Greece, it’s geographical location, the weather and were shown that it was made up of many islands. Then using photos and props they learned about the history of the Olympics and even got to experience a taste of competition, victory and pride after playing paper, scissors and stones with Izabella winning and receiving the prize of an Olive wreath crown!
After that, we were taken into the world of Greek mythology. Using props, masks and drama, some children were called on to participate in a reenactment of Theseus and the Minotaur… a very exciting story!
Our afternoon ended with all children learning a Greek dance and dancing to Greek music before trying some rather delicious Greek treats!
We would all like to say a huge thank you to Mr Lemos for this amazing experience!
